An application letter is called that letter through which an applicant submits his details about qualifications and experience etc. suitable for a post, to a prospective employer. An applicant can be called a sale letter through which an appective wish to sale his services.

In order to make the application letter attractive and impressive, an appli- cant should follow the following suggestions -

1. The application should be addressed to the employer by his desig- nation, not by his name.
2. Language of the application should be simple and precise.
3. The post, for which the applicant is appliying, should be mentioned prominently.
4. The reference in response to which the applicant is applying, should be mentioned clearly.
5. After menting the reference the applicant should mention his de- tailed particular regarding experience and qualifications.
6. Applicant should avoid flowery or decrative language.
7. Particulars should be mentioned in tabuler form. Narrative form should be avoided.
8. For private jobs, the applicant can mention the salary drawn, salary expected and present post held.
9. If application is made on the initiative of applicant, It is esssential for him to present his brief introduction in beginning.
10. If the applicant desires to mention any special quality, attributes or interest, it should be highlighted.
11. Sometimes, employer requires a specific ability, applicant should mention clearly and highght it, if he has.
12. An applicant must mention, in the application, the explanation for his desire of change.
13. At last, he should suggest some intestesting information about himself.
14. Applicant should prepare a separate resume and enclose with a suitable covering letter.

Covering letter of resume

The covering letter of the resume is as important as the application letter itself. In fact, it is an application itself. It is a short and sweet note for the recipient that all the required details are attached or enclosed. It is called covering letter simply because it is considered to tell or inform the employer about the details or particulars enclosed. But, it should not be a dull or lifeless note. It should not be written in a mechanical manner. A well drafted covering letter reflects the personality of the writer. It can create curiosity in the em- ployer to pay attention to details of resume. It also expresses communication skills and enthusiasm of the applicant. A covering letter helps the prospective employer to decide whether their applicant should be invited for interview or not. so it is advisable to the applicant to take care of the following points while drafting a covering letter for his resume.

1. He should use a standard quality paper.
2. The letter must be typed unless it was asked for hand written application.
3. The name and address of the employeer must be written carefully.
4. It is essential to mention the source of information regarding vacancy.
5. The applicant must express his desire to be considered for the position.
6. He must express his enthusiasm and optimism towords the receipt of a fovourable reply from the employer to discuss more details in an inter- view.
7. His tone and language must be positive and active.
8. He must mention the information regarding enclosures.
9. The style of the covering letter must be formal.
10. If the employer has given a box number only, the covering letter must be addressed to "the Advertiser, Box No."

Good resume

A resume contains the detailed information about the applicant. It is also known as biodata or curriculum vitae (C.V.) Almost, all the advertise- ments require resume or biodata or curriculum vitae of the applicants. It is a very important enclosure of covering letter, which is also known as particu- lars, data sheet, vitae sheet etc.

It is important note is this regrad that resumes have different coversation in different countries. Different advertisers often ask for the applicant's details is a particular specified manner. Generally, it can be ob- served two kinds of resume i.e. general purpose resume and specific purpose resume. General purpose resume is fit for a number of companies and jobs whereas specific purpose resume is suitable for one company and one job only. Generally, a good resume contains the following information;

1. Personal particulars
2. Academic qualifications
3. Additional qualifications
4. Experience; that may be stated in the following order.
    (a) Functional - Emphasisng the skill and talent of the applicant.
    (b) Chronological - Exphasing work experience, listing job descriptions.
5. Additional information that may include anything worth menthioning such as languages known.
6. References.

The physical layout of the resume is very important because there are so many things to be called for personal interview depends entirely on his resume. A recipient of applications does not have much patience. He has to go through a larger number of applications and resumes. so, a resume must be attractive, comprensive and compact, A lenghty resume can, however, be jus- tified if the applicant has mentined important, clearly specified and easily verificable facts in his resume, otherwise a good resume should be short. at- tractive, impressive and eye catching.
